After Much Prodding

After much prodding, I am going to try to get this blog up and running.

Andrew and I have been in Georgia for six weeks now and we are finally starting to get settled in. So far we have noticed a few big differences

1. The people down here are really a lot friendlier than people in Michigan, they want to talk to you, and will go out of their way to be nice. Also, we got invited to a total stranger's family Thanksgiving dinner.

2. Today is the coldest day we have had so far and it's just forty degrees. Last year on Black Friday I went outside at four am to hand out tickets to customers waiting in line wearing my heavy winter coat, hat gloves and scarf. This year I did it in short sleeves.

3. TRAFFIC! The second week we were here we drove into downtown Marrietta to have lunch on their adorable little historic square. This is maybe ten miles, on a road with a fifty five mile an hour speed limit. It took us forty minutes to get home. FORTY MINUTES! At four oclock in the afternoon. I haven't been down to the major shopping area since about three weeks ago because I am terrified of spending the entire day in traffic. Nothing they can offer up down there is worth that.

4. I love the Super Target, but I miss Meijer. Target is more expensive, and they don't offer the same brands that I am used to buying at Meijer. There is this spinach salad mix that Meijer sells, but I can't find it down here. We also have Kroger, a chain called Publix and Wuper Walmart. I don't like the Kroger, it's old, dim and dirty, and the Publix has not great produce, AND high prices. The Walmart is literally right out my backdoor, so it's convenient, but I feel dirty shopping there. I mean the store is really clean, but I feel like a bad person for giving them my money.

But, all in all, we love it here. They have great public schools, which isn't an issue for us right now, but will be eventually, and there seem sto be a real sense of community. I'm probably going to serve on one or two city committees (tourism and historic preservation probably), and Andrew has an opportunity to get involved in the community youth football program if his work schedule permits when the season rollas around again.

I don't have any pictures right now, but once I wrangle some boxes around here I'll talk some pictures of the paint job in the apartment and get them posted. More eventually.

Glad to have you in the blogging world. I enjoy reading these as much as I do writing my own.

I hear you on the grocery shopping! I usually get what I can from the sunday paper and try to get a mix of things from publix, target, and whole foods. Super target is tricky though, some of their prices are higher, some lower. Yogurt for instance, is usually cheaper at target. And they have some antibiotic/horomone free beef and chicken that is usually priced good, if you get it on sale! Never by produce at Super target though. I've had way too many bad experiences! Anyways, we are loving the weather too! Some days though, say, dec.25th, I miss the snow. Just a little bit. I too, am glad to have you blogging - yippee!
